Research Assistant / Research Staff — Medical Imaging & Agentic AI
1-year contract, full-time, in-person at the University of Arizona.

The Tushar Lab develops and evaluates AI-based systems for medical imaging and agentic AI applications, including chatbot-style and vision-language assistants for clinical screening and decision-making. Current work includes building programmable virtual imaging trial frameworks (e.g., iTRIALSPACE) for controlled evaluation of AI models in lung cancer screening, along with broader efforts in benchmarking model performance, consistency, and usability across imaging conditions and task settings.
Responsibilities
- ✓Build and test AI models and prototype assistants
- ✓Develop evaluation pipelines and implement benchmark tasks and testing protocols
- ✓Design performance and usability metrics
- ✓Support open-source documentation and software release
Desired Background
- ✓Master's/Undergrad graduate or soon-to-be graduate in ECE, CS, BME, Data Science, or a related field
- ✓Strong Python programming skills
- ✓Experience with LLMs and agentic AI
- ✓ML / computer vision, GitHub, and Docker experience is a plus
Expected Outcomes
Contributions to lab research infrastructure, prototype AI tools, reproducible open-source evaluation toolkits, and potential co-authorship on peer-reviewed publications.
